Get Up to $1500 in Rebates for Energy-Saving Installations
DTE Energy has launched a new program called “Your Energy Savings” to help consumers save money on their utility bills while helping the state of Michigan become more energy efficient.
DTE Energy Homeowners can get up to $1,500 in rebates for the installation of certain kinds of energy-saving home improvements. Rebates are also available if the homeowner completes an energy survey or a comprehensive audit.
Energy surveys are only $25, which includes an energy-saving kit, including such items as compact fluorescent light bulbs and programmable thermostats valued at $50.

Lobster Pot – Business in Focus
Jim and Connie Burdine run the retail operations and have been EEV residents on Grayton since 1967. Jim has been with the business for forty-seven “blissful years” and Connie has joined him for the past twenty seven. The family business originally opened in 1953 on Harper at Yorkshire and moved to the current location on Harper at Grayton in 1966 taking the current name, The Lobster Pot.
Up to twenty varieties of fish and shellfish will be available behind the counter on any given day, with an additional fifty in the display freezer. The wholesale business keeps 250 frozen items available, so retail customers should always ask if they are looking for something in particular. A call in advance can take care of special orders like swordfish steaks, shrimp platters or large quantities.

The Project for Public Spaces has created the Neighbors Project to promote ‘neighborliness’ in communities across America. The suggestions range from simple things like shopping locally and speaking at neighborhood meetings to reporting any building violations you see and volunteering. Take a look at the list and start with a few of the easier ‘low-hanging fruit’ and work your way up to something big. Everyone can make a difference and every bit helps.

Summer in the City Mural Update
Summer in the City has been busy painting murals along East Warren Avenue. Volunteers have finished painting a transportation theme mural at the Cadieux East Warren Bus Stop. The Mural featuring the D-Dot route 32 bus is prominently located on the west wall of the In ‘n’ Out at Cadieux and E. Warren Avenue.

Small Business Detroit MicroLoan Program
The Small Business Detroit MicroLoan Program is a partnership between the Detroit Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood and Commercial Revitalization and the Center for Empowerment and Economic Development. The program offers loans to small businesses that can’t obtain funding from traditional sources like banks. Microloans look beyond credit score to give entrepreneurs with little to no capital the chance to start a business. In addition, microloan programs offer business counseling and mentoring.

Commerce Department to Open Local Office in Detroit
US Commerce Secretary Gary Locke announced at the Detroit Economic Club’s National Summit plans to open an office in Detroit. The office will assist businesses in navigating the various programs and grants available from the Department of Commerce. The Free Press reports, “The idea is to create a single point of contact for business people and entrepreneurs seeking help, rather than forcing them to hire help to figure out which programs apply to them.”
